Rushern Baker to announce running mate tomorrow in Baltimore City

PG County Executive Rushern Baker will announce his gubernatorial running mate tomorrow in Baltimore City, according to a press release issued by Baker’s campaign.

Baker is expected to name former Baltimore City mayoral candidate Elizabeth Embry as his lieutenant governor.

Recent polling shows Baker leading his Democratic rivals but falling short in overtaking popular Republican Gov. Larry Hogan in a general election.

TOMORROW: RUSHERN BAKER TO ANNOUNCE PICK FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AT HISTORIC RAWLINGS CONSERVATORY IN BALTIMORE

Prince George’s County – On Tuesday, February 20 at 10:30 am, Prince George’s County Executive and Democratic candidate for Governor Maryland, Rushern Baker, will announce his pick for Lieutenant Governor at a press conference at the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory and Botanic Gardens of Baltimore in Druid Hill Park.

At 1pm,  Mr. Baker and the LG candidate will drive to the Maryland State Board of Elections to file their candidacy. There will be media availability and photo-op outside the Board of Elections.

At 3pm, Mr. Baker and the LG candidate will tour the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless in Rockville, Maryland. This event is open to the press.

Conservatory Press Conference in Baltimore:

At a press conference at the Conservatory, Mr. Baker will deliver remarks and announce his pick for Lieutenant Governor. In addition to Mr. Baker, the LG candidate and Baltimore community leader Sonja Merchant-Jones will deliver remarks. The event will bring together 50-60 Baltimore leaders, showing Mr. Baker’s strong support within the community and his commitment to economic development and neighborhood revitalization.

Mr. Baker has chosen a leader to serve as his Lieutenant Governor who shares his vision for building a Maryland that works for everyone and creating opportunity in every community across the state, including Baltimore City.  

Mr. Baker chose the historic Baltimore landmark to make this announcement given his strong personal relationship with the late delegate and Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Howard Peters Rawlings. When the County Executive was first elected to the House of Delegates in 1994, Mr. Rawlings quickly took him under his wing and served as a mentor and close personal friend.
