Rep. Trone to host March 22 live webinar with Dr. Anthony Fauci

Rep. David J. Trone (D-Md.) will host a live webinar with White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci on Monday, March 22, from 3-3:30 p.m.

Trone, who represents Maryland’s 6th congressional district,” will talk one-on-one with Dr. Fauci about the COVID-19 virus, the vaccine rollout,” and what the country will look like in the next few months,” according to the congressman’s latest “Covid Vaccine Newsletter.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci is the nation’s top infectious disease expert. He serves as director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Last December, then-President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. asked Fauci to join his administration’s coronavirus pandemic team – the White House COVID-19 Response Team – that would replace former President Donald J. Trump’s White House Coronavirus Task Force, of which Fauci previously served.

Fauci’s appointment to the new administration’s COVID-19 Response Team took effect when Biden and Vice President Kamala D. Harris were sworn into office on Jan. 20.

In January, Mr. Biden tapped Fauci to serve as the administration’s chief medical advisor. Fauci said he accepted the position as soon as Biden asked him.

Trone met with Novavax leaders; spoke with Moderna

Trone said he recently met “with leaders at Novavax to discuss updates on their vaccine trial, FDA approval, and distribution.”

“I was glad to hear that they’re working with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to ensure their vaccine is available to low and middle-income countries,” Trone said.

Novavax is a biotech company headquartered in Gaithersburg, one of the largest cities located within Maryland’s 6th district.

Last Thursday, Novavax reported that its experimental COVID-19 vaccine candidate is more than 96 percent effective in preventing mild and severe illness, NBC News reports.

“The results are from the company’s Phase 3 clinical trial, which was conducted in the U.K. Novavax’s trials in the U.S. and South Africa continue, and the company cannot apply for emergency use authorization in the U.S. until the American trials are complete.”

Trone also spoke with Moderna leaders. Moderna is a Massachusetts-based biotech company responsible for developing a COVID-19 vaccine that is now widely used worldwide.

“I was very impressed with their efforts to ramp up production to get more vaccines to states like Maryland, as evidenced by their 24/7 production schedule.”
