State Del. Aruna Miller (D-Darnestown) is racking up endorsements for her congressional among Montgomery County’s Democratic establishment, with the latest being consultant and former Maryland Democratic Party Chairman Terry Lierman.
Miller’s congressional campaign announced yesterday Lierman’s endorsement in a press release sent to media.
Lierman is the ultimate Democratic insider. The Montgomery County resident served as chief of staff to then-House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland). He’s is also a confidant of former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, having signed on to Martin O’Malley’s unsuccessful 2016 presidential bid and served as his campaign treasurer.
Last September, outgoing Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.), who is running for president of the United States in the 2020 election, announced that Lierman will serve as chairman of his presidential campaign.
Delaney has yet to throw his support behind any Democrat running to succeed him in the 6th Congressional District.
Politics is a family affair in the Lierman household.
Lierman’s daughter, Brooke E. Lierman, a Baltimore City Democrat and attorney, was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2014, representing District 46. She is running to retain her seat in the upcoming election.
Lierman’s son, Kyle Lierman, ran for state delegate in District 16 in 2010, finishing closely behind now-Del. Ariana Kelly in an 11-way primary that at times was rooted in negative attacks. Lierman (Kyle) now runs Civic Advisors, a consulting company, after serving in the Obama White House for six years.
Kyle Lierman is staying local in 2018, having signed on as a consultant to Montgomery County Executive candidate David T. Blair’s campaign.
