John Delaney for David Trone?

While visiting the Potomac Community Center (Montgomery Couty) early voting location today, a female John Delaney volunteer – and apparently a Capitol Hill staffer – claimed that John Delaney has endorsed David Trone’s campaign in the 8th Congressional District.

The Delaney volunteer, who was surrounded by David Trone volunteers, was asking voters on their way into the early voting center to please vote for John Delaney and/or David Trone. Her exact words to voters were, “vote Delaney and Trone!”

It would be big news if Delaney waded into the Democratic primary in the 8th. That’s why I asked the female Delaney volunteer whether Delaney endorsed Trone. The volunteer reiterated to me that Delaney did indeed endorse Trone.

Hooey.

If Delaney did endorse Trone we would know about it. And Delaney’s staff would have known their boss endorsed Trone. While visiting the Gaithersburg early voting center later today (the Activity Center at Bohrer Park), I asked a Delaney campaign staffer named Mark, who was manning the Democratic table, whether Delaney had endorsed David Trone. Mark, Delaney’s campaign staffer, ensured me that his boss, the incumbent Democratic congressman representing Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, indeed did NOT endorse David Trone – another beltway multimillionaire with the capacity to buy a congressional seat.

I don’t know who is running John Delaney’s campaign, but whoever it is, they should be sure their volunteers aren’t giving false information to voters.

Delaney would gain nothing by jumping into the heated contest over in the 8th. Although, if Delaney does decide to run for governor in 2018 (he probably will) and if David Trone loses the CD-8 Democratic primary (Raskin, I believe, will emerge as the winner) would Trone then run for the 6th Congressional District in 2018?

Delaney for Trone? Unlikely.
