The Great Boonsboro Carnival 2026: Dates, Schedule, Wristbands, and Fireworks at Shafer Park

Sentinel Silver, LLC, the Maryland older-adult technology institute, presents editorial coverage of the 2026 Great Boonsboro Carnival. Sentinel Silver’s free Carnival Companion app is available at SentinelSilver.com/boonsboro-carnival.

On the third Friday in May each year, Shafer Park comes alive.

And if you grew up in Boonsboro or anywhere, really, in Washington County (maybe Frederick, too) – or anywhere in this corner of Western Maryland – you know what that means.

The 2026 Great Boonsboro Carnival is finally here!

The 2026 carnival runs Friday, May 22, through Saturday, May 30, at Shafer Park, 37 Park Drive in Boonsboro.

  • The kitchen and rides open nightly at 5:00 p.m.
  • Live music starts at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. each night.
  • The Carnival closes around 11:00 p.m. each night.
  • Fireworks light up the sky on Friday, May 29.

The rest of this piece covers everything else you might want to know before trying that country ham.

Download the SAFE, FREE Boonsboro Carnival Companion App

Sentinel Silver, the Maryland older-adult technology institute supporting this coverage, built a free Boonsboro Carnival Companion app for anyone planning to attend.

This app, designed by a cybersecurity expert, is available for download from SentinelSilver.com/boonsboro-carnival and runs on iPhone and Android.

Here’s how to add the app to your smartphone: Open the URL on your phone, tap the share icon in Chrome or Safari, and choose Add to Home Screen.

That’s it!

What you get in the app: the full nine-night schedule and band lineup, the wristband information including all three cash-only advance-sale locations, the fireworks-night noise warning, the directions and parking guidance, the accessibility notes, and the Rescue Company contact information.

  • The app works offline once installed, which matters when the Wi-Fi at the park gets unreliable on the busiest nights.
  • The app costs nothing and shows no ads. Thank God. We’re all tired of the ads.
  • No account creation required. Sentinel Silver values privacy.
  • No data collected. Never. The Carnival app helps you have an ever-better Carnival experience.

You can install the app on your smartphone (and tablet) and use it to navigate the rides, the music, the food – all of it!

It’s free. We don’t want to see your data – ever -, and there’s no catch. It’s true.

Sentinel Silver built the app because older adults attending the Carnival deserve to have the information that matters in their pocket, not buried in a Facebook event page that takes three scrolls to find.

What Changed in 2026?

  • The Rescue Company runs the Carnival every May, and the 2025 edition is behind us.
  • The 2026 dates run from May 22 through May 30.
  • The format, the wristband program, the entertainment slots, the kitchen, and the fireworks night all carry forward. The 2026 entertainment lineup is the main thing that changes each year, and it is strong.

If you want the official Rescue Company page, you will find it at boonsbororescue.com.

The Carnival’s own Facebook page lives at facebook.com/GreatBoonsboroCarnival.

When is the Boonsboro Carnival 2026?

Friday, May 22, through Saturday, May 30.

Nine nights.

Each night follows the same rhythm:

  • The kitchen and rides open at 5:00 p.m.
  • The first music set begins at 6:30 p.m.
  • The second music set begins at 8:30 p.m.
  • And things wind down by eleven.
  • The weather can affect the music, and the kitchen stays open if it rains.

The fireworks display launches on Friday, May 29, at around 10:30 p.m.

Where is the Boonsboro Carnival?

Here’s the address: 37 Park Drive, Boonsboro, Maryland 21713.

It’s Boonsboro’s, Shafer Park.

First, some business:

  • Admission to the 2026 Carnival costs nothing.
  • Parking costs nothing. Good luck finding it out. Get there early. I’m serious.
  • The music costs nothing. That’s a real deal.
  • You only pay for what you eat and what you ride. Don’t go eating that steamer and then hop on the Ferris Wheel.

The park is cozy. It’s a nice little park. The town really keeps it up nicely.

There’s a spaceship ride in the park where my daughter, Paige, and I took one of our favorite pictures together. She was seven at the time (and now she’s nearly 20).

My dad took me to Shafer Park when I was a kid growing up in the ’90s. I nearly fell out of Dad’s (Bryan Miner) 1980-something car when Dad may have forgotten to buckle me and take it easy around the park’s proper turns. Dad made me promise never to tell my mom. (Dad will love that I told this story.)

George and William Boone, cousins of Daniel Boone, founded this park in the late 1700s. It has a space where bands and musicians can play and perform. It’s a quaint little park in the middle of one of America’s most historic small towns.

Wristbands and Carnival Tickets

The Boonsboro Ambulance & Rescue Service handles the kitchen, plans the music, orchestrates the parking, and pretty much everything else.

  • You can purchase tickets on-site.
  • Look for the ticket booths.
  • Pay-One-Price ride wristbands cost $24 in advance and $30 at the gate, a $6 savings per wristband when you buy in advance.
  • Wristbands work for the full night you purchase them for.

Three Locations Sell Advance Wristbands (Cash Only)

Three retail locations sell carnival wristbands in advance. All three accept cash only:

  • If you bring a credit card, you cannot buy advance wristbands at any of the three retail locations; however, you can still buy tickets at the gate for $30 each.
  • The cash-only window at Weis and Sheetz saves you $6 per wristband if you know about it in advance.
  • If you bring older adults or grandchildren who want to ride, plan ahead.
  • Stop at the ATM.
  • Stop at Weis or Sheetz – in advance.

The 2026 Boonsboro Carnival Entertainment Lineup – Night by Night

The Rescue Company books nine bands across nine nights.

The 2026 lineup runs the full range of what a Western Maryland summer crowd shows up for – hard rock, country, classic rock, eighties tribute, fifties throwback, southern rock, party covers. The music starts at 6:30 p.m. each night and runs in two sets.

If you’re coming for a specific band, you should plan to arrive at Shafer Park by 6:00 p.m.

Carnival Music Entertainment

  • Friday, May 22 – Kittyback. Opening night. Hard rock.
  • Saturday, May 23 – Truck Stop Burritos. Country and Southern rock. Saturday night crowds rank among the biggest of the run.
  • Sunday, May 24 – Brickyard Road. Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band. Skynyrd tributes draw the older end of the rock-and-roll audience hard, and Brickyard Road ranks among the better ones working in the mid-Atlantic.
  • Monday, May 25 – Hot Fun. Variety party band. Carnival regulars treat Monday night as family night.
  • Tuesday, May 26 – The Reagan Years. Eighties tribute. I’ve seen them play 100s. (Think Cancun Cantina, Hagerstown, 2006-2010 era, the night before Thanksgiving) The Reagan Years carries the biggest regional name on this year’s lineup. The band celebrates its thirtieth anniversary in 2026 and tours the entire DMV, playing rooms such as Hub City Vinyl in Hagerstown and Rams Head Center Stage in Hanover.
  • Wednesday, May 27 – The Fabulous Hubcaps. Fifties and sixties tribute. The Hubcaps have anchored the regional circuit since the 1970s, and they bring the doo-wop crowd out in force. Bring your dancing shoes. Don’t worry – nobody is putting this on Facebook for the likes.
  • Thursday, May 28 – Staff Infection. Classic rock cover band. You might get lucky and hear Journey.
  • Friday, May 29 – The Cruisers. Classic rock. This is fireworks night. The Cruisers play the eight-thirty set, and the fireworks display launches over the park around ten-thirty. If you come for the fireworks, plan to park by eight.
  • Saturday, May 30 – Dean Crawford and the Dunn’s River Band. Closing night. Thirty years of country music, per the band’s own billing. RIP David Allan Coe.

Boonsboro Carnival Fireworks – Friday, May 29, 2026

When: Friday, May 29, 2026.

Time: Around 10:30 p.m.

The fireworks launch directly above Shafer Park.

The Town of Boonsboro’s own park notice carries an explicit warning: “The fireworks are very loud and are right above the Park.”

Note: The Town recommends leaving dogs at home that night. If you are a veteran with noise-related sensitivity, or if you bring an older adult who is sensitive to loud sounds, or if you bring a child who has not experienced fireworks of this scale before, you have a few options.

Don’t bring your dog that night.

Food, Pony Rides, & The Things People Remember

The Boonsboro Rescue Company operates the kitchen on-site.

The volunteers staffing the fryers, the burger line, and the cotton candy machine answer the ambulance calls the rest of the year.

Here’s my favorite stuff my doctor says I shouldn’t have:

  • Country Ham sandwiches
  • Hamburgers.
  • French fries.
  • Funnel cakes.
  • Cotton candy.

Directions to the Boonsboro Carnival, Parking, & Accessibility

Come on – you all know how to get to Boonsboro.

But if you don’t know how, here are some simple instructions – because we’re nice over here at A Miner Detail, and Scotty Miner, my late, retired Air Force chief grandfather, would have carried a map with him everywhere (and I’m not talking about a GPS).

Coming from Hagerstown: Take Route 40 east to Boonsboro, then turn onto Park Drive.

Coming from Frederick: Take Route 40 west or Interstate 70 west to Route 65 north into Boonsboro. Road signs throughout the town direct visitors to the park.

  • Parking typically costs nothing in the grass lots adjacent to the park.
  • Lots fill up quickly earlier in the evening.
  • If mobility concerns anyone in your group, you can plan to arrive by 6:00 p.m. near the park entrance.

The park itself sits mostly level for walking. The midway runs on a flat surface, and the seating for the music stage (the band shell) sits on grass, with some shaded areas.

If you need an accessibility accommodation not covered by this description, the Rescue Company’s non-emergency line is (301) 432-6979.

What Older Adults (Seniors) Coming to the Carnival Should Know

This section speaks to older adults reading and to adult children planning to bring their parents or in-laws to the Carnival.

  • Cash for wristbands.
  • All three advance-sale locations (Boonsboro Weis, Hagerstown Weis, and the Boonsboro Sheetz at Routes 40 and 66) run cash-only, and the $6 savings per wristband over the gate price are real.
  • Bring a few bucks if you plan to buy wristbands in advance.
  • Parking proximity: Arrive by 6:00 p.m. to park close to the entrance. Some nice folks are assisting older adults with mobility challenges.
  • The walk from the further lots is not long, but it crosses grass, which matters for anyone using a cane or walker.

This is the kind of honest & transparent preparation Sentinel Silver builds for older adults across Boonsboro, Hagerstown, and Western Maryland, year-round.

About the Boonsboro Rescue Company

Two volunteer emergency organizations that operate in Boonsboro:

These organizations operate as separate entities, each with its own board, budget, and fundraisers. The Rescue Company runs the Carnival. You may have seen the Carnival called the Boonsboro Fire Department Carnival, or seen searches for “Boonsboro Fire Department Carnival” online.

The Rescue Company’s mission statement reads: “We provide top-quality emergency medical care and rescue services to Boonsboro and the surrounding communities, with honor, integrity, and sincerity. We serve our community at all times, not just during emergencies.”

The Rescue Company operates as a 501(c) nonprofit. Their address is 7619 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland 21713. Their non-emergency line is (301) 432-6979.

The volunteers staffing the Carnival answer the calls at three in the morning when somebody falls. They arrive when the heart stops, when the breathing changes, when the family is afraid and does not know what to do. The Carnival pays the bills that let them keep doing that work. The funnel cake you buy on opening night becomes fuel in an ambulance tank in August.

The Nostalgia Hits Hard

The Carnival – many memories.

And Boonsboro – man, I love that little small town in Western Maryland – and it matters to me because the people who meant the most in my life – who were born and raised in Boonsboro, my family – are now mostly gone. Boonsboro still feels like it did when I was growing up there in the ’90s.

I still drive 50 minutes every once in a while to eat at the Red Byrd. I started eating pancakes at “The Byrd” when I was all but, I don’t know, five? Okay, you’ll say, “But the Red Byrd is in Keedysville.” Yeah, but you had to drive through Boonsboro to get to it.

A Miner Detail covers this event because the volunteers who respond when an older adult falls deserve a year of community support, and the Carnival is how this community repays them.

One Last Thing About This Carnival in Boonsboro

My grandparents, Scotty and Joyce Miner, were lifelong Mapleville residents and were Boonsboro to the core. Scotty passed away in November 2009, and my grandmother Joyce now resides in a Hagerstown memory care community.

Scotty and Joyce often took me to the Boonsboro carnival in the ’90s, when I was a kid, growing up between Hagerstown, Halfway, and Boonsboro.

I made a lot of great memories at this Carnival, and now, at 40, these local events like the Boonsboro Carnival remind me how much I miss those special moments.

A Miner Detail will publish opening-night reporting from Shafer Park on Saturday, May 23, with photographs from the May 22 opening. If you have a tip about the Carnival, the Rescue Company, or Boonsboro generally, contact us at tips@aminerdetail.com.
