Manno endorsed by NNU; Miller endorsed by leaders of MoCo Women’s Democratic Club

State Sen. Roger Manno (D-Montgomery) and state Del. Aruna Miller (D-Darnestown), both leading Democratic candidates running for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, rolled out endorsements today.

Manno’s campaign this morning unrolled the endorsement of the National Nurses United (NNU), “the largest union and professional association of registered nurses in U.S. history.”

A Miner Detail shares a copy of Manno’s press release:

“Registered nurses are proud to endorse State Sen. Roger Manno for Congress because he has demonstrated his dedication to ensuring quality health care for all through a Medicare for All single-payer system,” said Renelsa Caudill, a Maryland registered nurse and member of National Nurses United. “Nurses also stand with Roger because he champions the struggles of working people, and has led efforts for social and environmental justice.”

Manno has worked closely with NNU and several nurses groups throughout the nation for close to 2 decades, including integral work on HR676, the universal single-payer legislation in Congress, his early work as a member of the House of Delegates organizing state lawmakers for a federal coalition in support of HR676, and his work in President Obama’s White House as a member of an advisory group on health reform.

“There is no more important social and economic issue in America then establishing health care as a right through a lean universal single-payer system, just like Medicare,” stated Manno.  “In that struggle, there is no stronger and more focused advocacy group for universal single-payer health care than NNU. I’m not just honored to have their support in my race for the 6th Congressional District, I’m honored to have worked alongside of NNU and their affiliates in the greatest and most important human rights and economic justice issue of our lifetime. I know that we will get it done.”

This evening, Miller’s campaign announced in a press release that several leaders of the Women’s Democratic Club of Montgomery County endorse her congressional candidacy.

A Miner Detail shares a copy of Miller’s press release:

Annapolis, MD – Today, Dorothy Barthelmes, Daphne Bloomberg, Carole Brand, Anne Healy, Rebecca Kahlenburg, Linda Kolko, Jane Merkin, Susan Messitte, Madeleine Sigel, and Beth Tomasello, all past presidents of the Woman’s Democratic Club of Montgomery County, announced their endorsement of Aruna Miller for Congress. The Woman’s Democratic Club has been a political force in Montgomery County and beyond since its founding in 1957.

“Delegate Miller is the most qualified candidate in the race,” said Daphne Bloomberg, President from 1991 – 1995. “Between her legislative experience as a Delegate and her professional experience serving Montgomery County as a transportation engineer, she would bring much needed, practical skills to Congress.”

Jane Merkin, president from 2011 – 2013 continued, “The theme of this year’s Women’s March is ‘March to the Polls’ because we know that to turn the movements of the past year into legislative action, we have to elect champions. Aruna Miller has been a champion for us in the General Assembly and we know she’ll be a champion in Congress.”

Aruna Miller began her career as a civil engineer, working for 25 years for Montgomery County. In 2010, she was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates where she represents the 15th District and serves on the Appropriations Committee. Delegate Miller lives in the 6th Congressional District with her husband, David, and their two dogs Lucy and Scout. Aruna and David also have three adult daughters Meena, Chloe, and Sasha.
