Rushern Baker

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker’s gubernatorial campaign confirmed today that Baker will announce his lieutenant governor selection this Tuesday.

Madeleine Russak, Baker’s campaign communications director, did not confirm the details of Baker’s announcement, including any information about whom the pick is, the time of the announcement or location.

Multiple sources confirmed that Baker has tapped former Baltimore City mayoral candidate Elizabeth Embry, a prominent Baltimore City attorney who hails from a well-known Baltimore City political family.

Kevin Kamenetz

Kamenetz’s gubernatorial campaign has not released any details on its lieutenant governor selection.

Kamenetz spokesman Sean Narron did not offer any clues about Kamenetz’s rollout timeline and announcement when reached Friday evening.

Two sources told A Miner Detail that Kamenetz was in Annapolis on the day of Gov. Larry Hogan’s (R) State of the State address and visited with a few Maryland lawmakers.

While visiting with lawmakers, sources claim, Kamenetz shopped around potential candidates to join his gubernatorial ticket, including former Montgomery County Councilwoman Valerie Ervin and current Montgomery County Councilwoman Nancy Floreen (Floreen has stated publicly that she backs Baker’s bid for governor).

A Miner Detail reported on Jan. 30 that Kamenetz is considering Ervin as his running mate.

A campaign staffer who works for one of Kamenetz’s Democratic opponents pointed out to A Miner Detail today that the website domain KamenetzErvin.com was registered on Feb. 15.

Rich Madaleno

A Miner Detail was the first media outlet to report that state Sen. Rich Madaleno is considering former Maryland Special Secretary of Minority Affairs Luwanda Walker Jenkins of Baltimore to join his gubernatorial ticket.

Madaleno campaign spokesman Lance Kilpatrick confirmed with A Miner Detail today that Madaleno is considering Jenkins. 

A candidate committee, Marylanders for Luwanda Jenkins, was registered on Feb. 15 with the Maryland State Board of Elections.

The Madaleno campaign later announced in a press release that Madaleno will introduce his lieutenant governor candidate on Monday, Feb. 19, at Western High School in Baltimore.

Jenkins is a graduate of Western High School, according to a LinkedIn page in her name.

Alec Ross

Multiple sources tell A Miner Detail that Baltimore tech entrepreneur Alec Ross has chosen Montgomery County business owner Julie Verratti as his gubernatorial running mate.

A Ross campaign email blast released on Feb. 14 announced that Ross will introduce his lieutenant governor on Feb. 24 at Five and Dime Ale House in Baltimore, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Verratti lives in Silver Spring and is the co-owner and Denizens Brewing Co., a popular Montgomery County brewery located in the heart of Silver Spring. Denizens is the only woman and minority-owned and operated brewery in Maryland, according to its website.

A candidate committee, Julie Verratti for Maryland, was registered on Feb. 14 with the Maryland State Board of Elections. Additionally, the website domain RossVerratti.com was registered with GoDaddy on Feb. 8.

The Ross campaign has not responded to A Miner Detail’s attempt to confirm Verratti’s selection. A Miner Detail on Friday afternoon left a telephone message with a Denizens’ Brewing Co employee. Verratti has not responded as of Friday evening.

Ben Jealous and Jim Shea

Former NAACP chief Ben Jealous announced last November that Susan W. Turnbull, a Democratic Party insider, would join his gubernatorial ticket. On Thursday, Baltimore attorney Jim Shea announced Baltimore City Councilman Brandon Scott as his running mate.
