Montgomery County Council at-large candidate Evan Glass raised $157,096 in 2017, according to a press release issued today by Glass’ campaign.
Glass is participating in the county’s new public financing system.
“Of the total number of donations, 487 were from individual Montgomery County residents. In accordance with Montgomery County’s public financing system, Glass has already received $100,882 in public financing and applied for an additional $15,395 in the latest report,” according to Glass’ news release.
Glass’ current cash on hand stands at $143,552.
A Democrat, Glass ran unsuccessfully in 2014 for Council District 5, losing to now-Councilman Tom Hucker by 222 votes in a six-man primary.
“I am proud of the early support our campaign is receiving from residents all across Montgomery County,” Glass said. “I am very grateful for the $5 and $10 donations I’ve received from individuals who have never participated in the political process before. My grassroots campaign is dedicated to ensuring that their voices are heard.”
Glass is the executive director of Gandhi Brigade Youth Media, a countywide nonprofit that provides free after school programs for underserved students. He previously spent 12 years as a CNN journalist covering Congress and national politics. Locally, Glass is vice chair of Montgomery Housing Partnership and serves on the board of Committee for Montgomery, Conservation Montgomery, Montgomery County Arts Advocates, and is past-president of two civic associations.
