Montgomery County, Maryland – The African American Democrats of Montgomery County, LLC (AADMC). The Trone for Congress campaign strategy to target and exploit the African American vote is offensive. David Trone is a candidate for Congress vying to succeed outgoing Rep. John Delany (D6-Md) in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
On December 7, 2017, Candidate David Trone issued a memo to all campaign staffers entitled “African American Outreach” that outlined a plan to deceive African Americans in order to get their votes. His campaign staffers leaked the email personally authored by Mr. Trone to a blog earlier this month.
This email clearly demonstrates his insensitivity to underserved communities. Furthermore, it discloses his lack of understanding to these communities that he is asking to represent in the U.S. Congress.
His plan for garnering African American support should have been an outline illustrating how he will address the complex issues that plaque marginalized communities; instead, he issues a plan of how he plans to manipulate them.
We are calling for the Trone campaign to issue a public apology immediately, regarding his deeply personal negative sentiments towards African Americans.
