House of Ruth: A Sanctuary of Hope and Support for Families and Women

The House of Ruth is a comprehensive domestic violence non-profit organization and program developed in Baltimore City, Maryland, providing a wide range of services and resources to combat domestic violence.

House of Ruth Overview

Established: 1977 in Baltimore City.

Primary Mission: To provide support, free resources, and aid to targets of domestic violence.

Services Provided by The House of Ruth

Housing

  • An 84-bed shelter in Baltimore City (23 private rooms);
  • Stable housing for women and children – a safe place– who have been rendered homeless because of household violence.

24-Hour Hotline

A confidential 24-hour telephone hotline for victims who need immediate help and counseling.

Counseling

The organization provides individual and group counseling and emotional support for its clients, shelter residents (and even the homeless), families, and community members.

Intervention

An abuse intervention program is offered through the organization’s Gateway Project.

Client Services

With a staff of more than ninety, the organization offers stability building for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) – like help with finding a job, housing, education assistance, safety planning, and more.

The organization offers a number of client services to domestic violence victims.

The House of Ruth offers free legal services, mainly over the phone or in courthouses, to help victims cut ties with their alleged abusers.

The House of Ruth understands that domestic violence is a complex and often hidden issue that affects individuals across all walks of life.

The HOR offers emergency housing for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
