Johns leads D-18 field with most cash on hand; endorsed by ‘Run for Something’

MILA JOHNS REPORTS MOST CASH ON HAND OF CANDIDATES IN D-18 DELEGATE PRIMARY; ENDORSED BY RUN FOR SOMETHING

Mila Johns, a first-time candidate for state delegate, running as a progressive Democrat in District 18, has the largest amount of cash on hand of any of the eight candidates in the race.

Even after significant spending on media, Johns is far ahead of the rest of the field in the first fundraising report of the campaign cycle.

Johns was also endorsed today by the campaign organization Run for Something, which is backing candidates in state and local elections around the country who it believes have the potential to advance a meaningful progressive agenda over the next thirty years.

“I could not be more honored or thrilled to be endorsed by Run For Something,” Johns said. “I look forward to working together to advance our shared values in District 18 and throughout Maryland.”

District 18 includes all of Chevy Chase, Kensington, and Garrett Park, as well as parts of Wheaton, Silver Spring, and Bethesda.

Johns’ campaign reported $82,297.19 cash on hand. She raised $14,238.00 and loaned her campaign $100,000.

Two District 18 incumbents – Ana Sol Gutierrez and Jeff Waldstreicher – have opted to run for different offices, leaving Al Carr as the only incumbent running for re-election in the three-person district.

Johns is locked in a crowded Democratic primary with Al Carr, Ron Franks, Helga Luest, Leslie Milano, Joel Rubin, Emily Shetty and Jared Solomon. Shetty was a candidate in the 2014 District 18 Democratic primary, earning the Washington Post’s endorsement, but placed fourth overall.
