Looking back on my personal political evolution, I have thought many times about how I went from a redneck Californian that listened to Rush Limbaugh on the way to Boy Scout Camp Pico Blanco, to a brainwashed student that believes the text book hype, to a Libertarian-leaning Republican.
It’s the logic, stupid.
I remember back to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I paid attention to the storm because I was in the middle on moving from Fort Huachuca, AZ to Fort Stewart, GA and the most direct path had been flooded. All over the news were stories of the terrible Government response to the disaster, with the fingers pointed squarely at President Bush.
But who was really to blame?
With the ability of 11-year hindsight, we can clearly see who was to blame. It was the Democrat Mayor and the Democrat Governor whom failed to enact their disaster plan. Until it was too late.
Just in this last week, we have been so fortunate to have two examples of the double-standard in disaster-blame.
Instance #1 – Governor Rick Snyder (R) receives the blame for poisoned water in Flint, MI. Despite the fact that Flint is a Democrat town, run by Democrats, and that Michigan’s Department of Environmental Quality, also run by Democrats, failed to perform their most basic functions.
Instance #2 – Governor Terry McAwful (D) and Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) fail to pre-treat DC and Northern Virginia roadways in preparation for “catastrophic snowfall.”
“Yeah, that looks about right”
Where’s the media? Why is nobody blaming two Democrat Executives for their failures of emergency management?
I am hardly an apologist for either party. When an Executive from either party royally screws up, hold them accountable. But hold the right person accountable.
In a perfect world, the voters in Virginia and DC would remember this failure and vote those clowns out of office. In reality, these failures are Bush’s fault and you’re a racist….
UPDATE: As was pointed out to me by my Best Bipartisan Basher Friend Alex, Maryland also had the same problems as Virginia. My first guess would be that Emperor Miller and Darth Busch are too busy trying to override Gubernatorial Vetoes to bother with blaming Governor Hogan on some traffic snarls. Time will tell…
