Kory Boone Fiddles While the Young Republicans Burn

Over the weekend, some fresh news has come out of General Hospital, er…. I mean the Maryland Young Republicans.

Before we really get into the details, this post needs to prefaced. I was a part of the new slate that took over the MDYRs back in June in order to reform the organization and bring back competence to the position. We knew what the problems with the previous “leaders” were, so a group of people pledged to fix it. I was a part of this group, until I resigned in early December. Why did I resign? Not relevant to this story.

Back to the drama.

Recently, there was a kerfuffle about some petty and ridiculous BS. The BAYR holiday party was the same day as a birthday party for a BAYR member. Somehow, as though telepathic aliens were guiding the emotions of the MDYRs, this turned into a doozy.

Really? Is this what the MDYRs are going to get upset about? I know we are in a new PC society, where he have decided it is acceptable to change everything about yourself, whether it is your race, your species, and even your disability. But as far as I know, you are still not legally allowed to change your date of birth. I welcome any contrary evidence.

In true MDYR fashion, this little tiff went from a stupid argument to a full blown “I want your resignation” dispute. Speaking of resignations….

This is not the first resignation of a board member from the MDYRs. Since June, I count 5 resignations and an entire chapter that left the organization, the Howard County Young Republicans that became the Modern Republicans of Howard County.

So what the hell is going on over there? I reached out to the Executive Board and other involved parties asking for comment about the current situation. Here are some of the responses I received:

As with any organization, the problem always starts at the top. The organization has no leadership or management, we are back to the Lil Guy days without the shameless self-promotion of a click-bait adware blog.

The MDYR Competent Slate has failed to rebuild the organization. Their website is non-existent, there is no leadership, no fundraisers are scheduled, they lost their seat at the MDGOP table, and the board is divided in half. The current environment is the sole creation and responsibility of Kory Boone.

Kory, you failed. You gave it the ole’ College-try. There’s nothing wrong with failure, it’s an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and grow as a person. Please, put down the fiddle and step down before the flames render the organization dead for another 4 years. Let someone, with less ego and better priorities, take charge and get Republicans elected in Maryland.
