A Miner Detail can report to our readers that Amie Hoeber, a national security expert who served under President Ronald Reagan as the Deputy Undersecretary of the Army, has won Maryland’s 6th Congressional District Republican primary.
With 29.3% of the vote (16,876 votes – and counting), Hoeber pulled out a decisive victory over her Republican challengers, with her nearest competitor, Washington County commissioners President Terry Baker, taking in 23.1% of the vote. Although Terry Baker refuses to concede to Hoeber until all absentee ballots are counted, Hoeber’s lead is virtually insurmountable; at this juncture, there is no path to victory for Terry Baker.
Hoeber decisively won four of the five counties in the 6th district, including Garrett, Allegany, Frederick and Montgomery but was overtaken by Terry Baker in Washington County, Baker’s home turf. (I’ll have the final breakdown of the numbers out within the next day or so.)
The Hoeber campaign released the following press release announcing its victory:
Potomac– Today, Republican Amie Hoeber, candidate for Congress in the Sixth District of Maryland, released the following statement following her successful bid to win the Republican primary:
“I am deeply honored that the voters in Maryland’s Sixth District have selected me as the Republican candidate to take on incumbent Congressman John Delaney in November.
I commend my primary opponents for a well-fought race and spirited competition. I appreciate the friendships that have developed during this journey.
But tomorrow morning a new fight begins. And I look forward to leading it.
For the past almost four years, our District has been let down time and time again by a Congressman who is baffled by our national security needs and whose answer to America’s problems is more government and more regulations. Furthermore, Congressman Delaney has shown, particularly recently, that his attention centers on challenging our own Governor Hogan rather than on the needs and priorities of Marylanders of the Sixth District.
Instead of our current Congressman, we need a Representative who understands, cares, and will fight for our values and priorities. I am that person.
The principles I will stand for as a Congresswoman are these: I will work to bolster our national security to keep Marylanders safe; I will focus on business and job growth here in Maryland’s Sixth District, particularly in the western counties; I will fight to reduce government intrusion in our lives; and I will work every day to ensure that our constitutional liberties are protected
Again, I humbly thank the voters for giving me this great honor. As your candidate, I will work every day to make you proud.”
A Miner Detail congratulates Amie Hoeber and her team on their primary victory!
