Cucumbers, Carpetbagging, and the MDGOP

There’s two things I cannot stand. Cucumbers (or cucumber-derived products) and liars.

There’s been some chatter as of late concerning former Congressional candidate Dan Bongino. Even a blind monkey after a double hemispherectomy could have predicted the response: EHRMAGAWD CARPETBAGGER!!!!11!1!1

Before I continue, full disclosure. I started volunteering for the Bongino campaign in the Fall of 2013. Both my wife and I spent countless hours working to get him elected.

Back to my opinion. Do I care about Dan being called a carpetbagger? Not really. Let’s try using some *logic* here. Dan was a Secret Service Agent. He was ordered by the Federal Government to move to Maryland. He decided to stay here for a few years. Then he decided to leave. Please, someone criticize him for leaving while we are in the middle of a blizzard. This is the weather forecast for Palm Beach, FL:

Florida Weather

Why are these facts important? Because I am in the same situation. I’m born and raised Californian. I’m part of the #49ersFaithful. My entire family still lives there. I came to Maryland because the Federal Government told me to and I decided to stay a little while. If I get a job offer closer to family and in a more desirable location, you bet your snowshoes that I will be there. And if I decide to run for office after I move, it does not make me a carpetbagger. It merely means that Liberals have left my home state in such ruin that I refuse to move back.

Wait a minute, that sounds pretty familiar, right? Dan is from New York, another Liberal bastion of failed Government policies. Almost as bad as California. At least New York has water to grow food.

So now that we have used logic, the carpetbagger allegations are bogus. But wait, what do liars have to do with this? And cucumbers?

Well, Facebook can be a very fun place. As usual, the trolls were out in force. What they said, not important. What was more important was the non-existent MDGOP “ground game” that happened in the 6th Congressional District in 2014.40K

Myself, and the rest of Team Bongino, were shocked to hear this. The MDGOP spent $40,000 in the 6th District?!?! We never saw or heard from them. Living in the 6th District, I never got a postcard, received a phone call, saw a TV ad, or heard a radio spot paid for by the MDGOP in support of Dan. Remember, the 6th District wasn’t “winnable.” All the talking heads and political prognosticators said it was “safe D.”

On second thought, I did receive one call from someone asking me to vote for Hogan….wait a second….

Is that what Mr. McShane believes qualifies as GOTV? So maybe he isn’t lying, maybe he’s just twisting the facts around a little bit to fit his desired narrative? His logic doesn’t pass the smell test. I mean, I knocked on doors in Brunswick for Dan, does that somehow mean that I performed “GOTV” for Ellen Bartlett (Frederick County Council candidate in the Brunswick area) in 2014?

No, no it doesn’t.

And now you may be asking, “what about cucumbers?” I don’t like them. That is all.

Bravo!! I was Dan’s Anne Arundel County Coordinator for his Senatorial campaign back in 2012.

I would think that since we live in a very mobile America now as opposed to when the term “carpetbagger” was first termed, we would be over that by now. People move all over the country, especially these days where there is a scarcity of jobs.
